Mr. Jarvi is the Interim Artistic Director of Charlottesville Opera and recently completed his tenure as the Resident Conductor of the St. Louis Symphony and Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Raised in Grand Haven, Michigan, Steven Jarvi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Theory from the University of Michigan where he studied with Kenneth Kiesler, Martin Katz and Jerry Blackstone, along with a Master’s in Orchestral Conducting from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with the legendary conducting pedagogue, Gustav Meier.

The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and Concordia University Ann Arbor are excited to present a free, family-friendly, outdoor concert on the grounds of Ann Arbor’s Concordia University. This 80-minute concert features the full Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra conducted by guest conductor Steven Jarvi. The program features a mix of classical and pops music along with audience favorites including selections from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for open seating on the grass. With an Instrument Petting Zoo for kids of all ages from 7:00-8:00 PM, River Sounds in the Key of A2 is summer fun for the entire family on the banks of Ann Arbor’s beautiful Huron River.
